What is TRE?

Although relatively new to the UK, David Berceli’s TRE is used by thousands across the world for easy every day stress release, as well as being effective in helping with physical and mental health, chronic stress, tension, PTSD, and trauma. It has been widely used in the forces and with survivors of sexual abuse for the treatment of PTSD.

TRE or Tension Releasing Exercises is a sequence of seven exercises designed by Dr David Berceli to engage a natural reflex to release stress, through shaking. It is a profoundly effective form of stress management designed to be a self-help tool that once learned, can be used as needed, throughout one’s life, thereby continuously supporting and promoting personal health and wholeness. It is a simple set of 7 exercises that encourages the body to unwind using our natural mechanisms for stress release.
 

How does TRE work?

The tremors and other involuntary movements allow us to release long held tension patterns, stress and trauma from the body. This release allows the nervous system, which can get stuck in primitive survival strategies (commonly known as flight/flight/freeze), to reboot and balance.

It is a great self help tool calming the nervous system, leaving us relaxed and peaceful.
TRE is a safe and easy way of releasing tension and waking up your body leaving us relaxed, rebalanced and rejuvenated. TRE is a safe comfortable and natural process.

Typical Session with a Certified TRE Provider

A TRE session will involve taking a short history thereafter you will be show the 7 simple and easy exercises that re-activate the instinctive tremor response. In the vast majority of experiences it is a pleasurable relaxing experience. We can learn to trust our bodies more and can allow us to have a more meaningful and connected experience with our bodies.


How long does it take?

Sessions usually last for an hour and half and it is often recommended to have more than one in order to become familiar with the exercises and to feel comfortable in your TRE practice.
